Timezone autodetection on 12.05.08 22:34
Just now, i finished a feature i wanted to implement for longer:

Timezone Autodetection

It came to my attention that most people have not set the correct timezone on this page because they dont know that this feature exists or other reasons. Because of this matches (especially from other continents) were often misscheduled which lead to quite some confusion.
So we were looking for a solution.

We now detect the timezone through 2 mechanisms:

1. The country you come from
2. The system time your browser reports through JavaScript

For people from countries with only 1 timezone this is really easy - we just check where you come from and give you the correct timezone when you browse to the page.

For people that come from the us, canada or russia with more than 1 timezone we first perform a "best guess" chosing the timezone most people in your country use. After that we use JavaScript to check if that guess is correct and switch to the timezone you are using on your computer.
If you dont have JavaScript enabled or your system time is wayyyy off, we'll just stick to our best guess.

Like that everyone should get the proper timezone each and everytime he visits the page without even thinking ;-)

If you dont like the feature because you want to specifically use a different timezone or we've mismatched you, you can go to "My Settings" and disable this feature - chosing your timezone manually.

Would be nice if you could transfer it to the match button-graphics...
There seems to be a default timezone set on the images...

When i add the match-button to our website and the game starts at 21:00 everyone would think it starts at 19:00 coz of the 2hrs offset...

the game buttons are gmt and will always be gmt. the buttons are for external linking so we cant know which timezones all the ppl are in who see them.
When you're on the page you'll rather check out the time section of the match instead of finding it on the image.
We should add "GMT" on the buttons to indicate the timezone though
